Devonshire

Brian Jones Conservative Party. Votes 749
I was a Liberal Democrat councillor in the old Devonshire Ward for eight years until 1999.
I have joined the Conservatives as I see them as my more natural political home. I am a great believer in human responsibilites before human rights and feel if we encouraged civic duty and care for our country, there might be less dependance on the state. I believe we should be allowed to keep as much of our earned income as possible and spend our money as we wish and not at the governments whim.
I feel this Labour government is the worst we have ever had and is pure socialist in the way it taxes us to the hilt and distributes it not to the poor but to beauracracy, which in turn wastes too much of it.
I am opposed the EU as it is now and we should return to what we felt we voted for originally, a close alliance to prevent unnecessary wars breaking out between us again.
I have lived in Eastbourne for over thirty years, working as a Qualified Social Worker in the Meads /Town Centre team, in Child Care, foster and adpotion, and mental illness. For fifteen years until retirement I owned and ran the Arden Hotel in Burkington Place.
Hobbies are football, writing and theatre. I am secretary of the local branch of the English Speaking Union, a committee member of Eastbourne United Assc. football team and a volunteer 'Appropriate Adult' to juveniles held in the detention centre at Hammonds Drive. If elected I want to concentrate on Quality of Life issues, law and order the environment and the mainaining and enhancement of our Victorian heritage.

Steven Wallis Elected Liberal Democrat Party. Votes 1491
I'M BACKING THE PEOPLE'S CAMPAIGN TO SAVE DGH
Steve Wallis was born in Eastbourne in 1963 and has lived in or around the town for most of his life. Professionally, Steve is the sales manager for TR Fastenings based in Uckfield, East Sussex.
He says: "Generations of my family were born in Eastbourne and I am determined this great town of ours will have a bright and prosperous future"
Putting Devonshire First: Many local residents and local groups are aware that Steve is a very tenacious campaigner and that he will fight hard to continue to improve Devonshire Ward and Eastbourne. Alleyways, parking, licensing, development, pavements, play areas, anti-social behaviour are only some of the issues Steve has been actively campaigned on and will continue to do so.
"If elected I will continue to work hard for the residents of Devonshire Ward in the same way that my friend and colleague Councillor Beryl Healy has done now for many years. I will ensure that you have a strong voice at the Town Hall. To me residents are customers and they must always come first".

Zoe Vonderdell Green Party. Votes 201
I have lived in Eastbourne all my life and grew up in Old Town, attending Ocklynge and Ratton Schools before moving onto Park College. Having trained to teach science for Primary Schools, I believe access to good education is vital for everyone throughout their lives.
The Green Party are committed to and fully value lifelong learning.
As a strong Green voice for Devonshire Ward on the Council, I would campaign for the preservation of the Art Deco former Cavendish Road coach station booking hall which the Council want to see demolished. I also want to see a cycle lane restored to our seafront and greatly improved facilities for cyclists and pedestrians across the town centre.
I will also campaign for a quality regeneration scheme for our town centre, not just another bland shopping centre. The failed Seaside Road regeneration scheme must not be allowed to happen on an even bigger scale!

Richard Goude Labour Party. Votes 184
I spent my working life as a teacher here in Eastbourne, in business and as a business trainer. I joined the Labour Party in 2000, when I was living in the Leyton constituency of East London. I saw at first hand the real improvements being made in the lives of ordinary people: better schools, better health and community services and the re-generation of rundown shopping streets and centres. I wanted to be part of this project and have been an active Labour member ever since.
You may feel that these benefits have not reached you directly. Here in Eastbourne you may feel marginalized by the mediocrity of our alternating Tory and Lib Dem councils. That's why it is so important to go out and vote according to your beliefs. Only when Labour councillors are back in the Town Hall will all local issues be decided on a fair but pragmatic basis.
Since I returned to Eastbourne I have been a candidate for Devonshire Ward in Borough & County Council elections, and have campaigned for regeneration of the local economy. I support the Town Centre Plan, and improvements to the A27. I welcome Labour's Respect agenda, which is reducing anti-social behaviour. I am against the present Parking Plan, but will work for a balanced Traffic Management Scheme.
I have a special interest in education. I am a governor of a local primary school. I am determined that no child in Eastbourne shall move on to Secondary School without the necessary skills to benefit from the later stages of their education.
