Kate Arnold
Green Party. Votes 306
Kate grew up in Eastbourne and after living in London and Asia returned to England has lived in Meads for eight years. Kate is a Nutritionist and freelance writer, is a member of the Soil Association and lectures on health and nutrition. She is passionate about environmental issues which overlap in the work she does.
Having lived in some of the most polluted cities in the world with no environmental infrastructure coming back to England made me more aware of our responsibility to raise peoples awareness and keep that awareness at the forefront of all political arenas. This year is even more exciting for the Green Party.
Green issues are in the forefront of the news at the moment as we have seen in the monumental work of Jamie Oliver's work for better school food produced by local farmers.A vote for the Green Party is a vote of conscience and a true green borough council would take the long term decisions needed to conserve our environment.

Dennis Scard
Labour Party. Votes 173
I live in Meads and before moving to Eastbourne five years ago I was formerly General Secretary of the Musicians' Union. I am currently Deputy Chairman of Shoreham Port, a lay panel member of the Employment Tribunal service, a member of the DTI's Central Arbitration Committee, and on the governing bodies of several educational/arts organisations. I am also a member of St. Johns (Meads) Bowls Club. This local election is about who should represent Meads residents on Eastbourne Borough Council. A vote for Labour in Meads will help to ensure that:
+ We will campaign at local and national level to preserve the status of the DGH as an acute hospital providing a full range of services to the local community.
+ We will campaign for an improved public transport infrastructure, road rail and bus. Don't forget that Labour has given everyone over 60 and people with disabilities free bus travel any where within East and West Sussex.
+ If the County Council insists on the introduction of a decriminalised parking scheme for Eastbourne we will campaign for a sensible and cost effective scheme for residents with park and ride and more off street car parks for visitors and commuters. This is a pre requisite before the schemes introduction.
+ We will fight against proposed cuts in grant aid to voluntary organisations and young people's services.
+ We will further develop and extend the home collection re-cycling scheme.
This year I urge you to vote for a new voice and vote Labour!

John (Bren) Creaven
Liberal Democrat Party. Votes 756
I'M BACKING THE PEOPLE'S CAMPAIGN TO SAVE DGH
Having spent most of his working life in senior sales positions in the manufacturing sector both in the UK and overseas, Bren Creaven moved to Meads in Eastbourne 16 years ago to run his own plastics and printing Brokerage Company.
A former Lib Dem Old Town Councillor, he brings political experience and business savvy to the team. A Liberal Democrat for many years Bren sees himself as an old-style Gladestonian liberal. The original party of free trade and the small business sector.
"Eastbourne has a great future" he says "but we must ensure the Council takes the right steps to encourage enterprise. We need a better transport infrastructure and we need the Council to work harder with local businesses in a constructive partnership to ensure a prosperous future for our wonderful town".
Bren is a Member of Institute of Chartered Secretaries, Institute of Directors and the National Trust.
He is also very proud to have six grandchildren who "keep me in touch with modern technology - someone has to!"

David Stevens Elected
Conservative Party. Votes 2440
As a Conservative Councillor representing MEADS ward since 1982 I have been Mayor and have served on Planning, Licensing, Standards and Environment committees and the Downland Forum. I have consistently done my best to represent the views of local people and to work hard on their behalf at the Town Hall.
Much of Eastbourne, especially Meads, is still the quiet dignified town I remember as a boy. During my time on the Council I have tried to help retain this image but at the same time have done my best to encourage the ambience and vitality of a vibrant modern tourist town.
I intend to continue to seek to curb the activities of over-exuberant young people who spill out late at night from town centre clubs and who cause distress to residents through noise, vandalism and anti-social behaviour.
The matter of thoughtless parking throughout Meads, which causes danger to pedestrians and inconvenience to residents, still needs to be resolved. I will continue to seek ways of reducing this and try to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety at several dangerous crossroads.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I hope that you will consider supporting me. If you wish to discuss any local issues with me please telephone: 01323 731455.
Yours sincerely,
David Stevens
Conservative candidate for the MEADS Ward
