Old Town

Clive Gross Green Party. Votes 416
I have lived in Eastbourne since 2001 and ran an independent retail and catering business in the town, before taking up my current role as Marketing Manager for a local community leisure trust. With over 15 years experience in the music and film industries, I am also a visiting lecturer for the School of Visual and Performing Arts at Sussex Downs College.
I first stood for the Green Party in Eastbourne in 2002 and have contested each of the Borough Council elections since. I was the Party's candidate at the 2005 General Election and am South East Green Party spokesperson for Consumer Affairs and Fair Trade. I am also chair of the Fairtrade Eastbourne campaign group.
I chose to live in Eastbourne because the superb location and spectacular natural environment. I am passionate about doing everything I can to preserve and improve Eastbourne. Only the Green Party are serious about looking after our heritage and investing in our long-term future rather than making short sighted cuts and planning decisions that show a complete lack of vision for our town.
I am a keen advocate of bringing new arts and cultural life to the town and a strong supporter of the new Cultural Centre as one key way of attracting new visitors and boosting the local tourist economy. I believe Eastbourne desperately needs a thriving cultural scene to attract new visitors to the town. Our theatres and seafront attractions need investment for the future rather than being allowed to run down or sold off.

Maurice Skilton Liberal Democrat Party. Votes 1590
I'M BACKING THE PEOPLE'S CAMPAIGN TO SAVE DGH
Maurice Skilton was born and raised in Old Town and has been serving the area as it's Councillor for over 40 years. He understands the issues and concerns of local people because he shares them every day. Maurice led the campaign to save Old Town Library and still helps out there every week.
The Environment: Maurice has been actively involved in the protection of the countryside and wildlife for over 50 years, and as a Founder Member of the South Downs Conservation Board remains an ardent supporter of continuing work being done to preserve the unique nature of the South Downs. He was also responsible for organizing the first international Children's Conference, held in Eastbourne, which attracted over one thousand children from one hundred countries around the world.
A Fair deal for Senior Citizens - He says: "It is shameful the way we allow so many elderly and infirm to live in poverty in our community. In Old Town we are fortunate to have many good neighbours and carers and comfortable accommodation in Upwyke House and Milton Ct. We should not forget the wonderful work done to support and care for those in need but we must recognize that we all have a responsibility to help and care for those in the community".
My promise: "Many local residents and groups are aware that I am a determined case-worker on behalf of local residents and if you do me the honour of re-electing me, I will continue to fight hard to improve our neighbourhood and to work hard on your behalf"
