Margaret was born and educated in Eastbourne. She has lived in Devonshire Ward for the last 28 years. Margaret is a member of Central Methodist Church. She has worked at Bourne School for 15 years, prior to which she worked at Eastbourne DGH.
Margaret became involved in politics through her husband, Keith, who was a young Liberal. She has been a member of the party for 23 years working in both the old and new Devonshire Ward throughout that time. She was elected to the Council in 2004.
Having lived and worked in Devonshire Ward for many years Margaret is aware of the many problems within the town centre area. Neil Stanley ELECTED 1442 votes
Liberal democrat.
My family moved to Eastbourne when I was thirteen and I have lived in the Seaside area for over ten years. Having taught at Bishop Bell for a number of years, I am now Head of English at a school in St Leonards. I am an active member of St Agnes Church in Whitley Road.
I was elected to represent Roselands in 1998 and have been a Devonshire councillor since the 2002. In that time, I have had two spells as cabinet member responsible for housing and health and am now deputy leader of the opposition Lib Dem group. I am one of the council's representatives on the board of Eastbourne Buses Ltd.
I think the council should prioritise the creation of quality high-skilled jobs and foster the development of communities that are safe, strong and supportive in an environment that is clean and sustainable.

The environment is also very important to Steve and if the Liberal Democrats gain control on My 3rd work will immediately start on doubling Eastbourne's recycling rate.'

Richard Goude 154 votes
Labour Party.
I spent my working life as a teacher, in business and as a business trainer. I joined the Labour Party in 2000.
Since I returned to Eastbourne in 2003 I have been your candidate for Devonshire Ward in Borough & County Council elections.
I welcome the improved facilities in the ward through Labour's Sure Start Programme, and I congratulate Eastbourne Community Cultural Network on their recent success in attracting funds for community liaison. I support the SavetheDGH campaign working to retain a full range of consultant-led services.
I am against changes in parking zones until we have an integrated public transport system in Eastbourne.
I believe the future of Eastbourne lies in attracting more sustainable long-term jobs to the town. Only then can Eastbourne shake off its image as a low-wage economy.
The provision of affordable homes is an increasing problem and the council needs to make sure that all developments of homes in the area contain significant affordable housing, together with adequate infra-structure provision: schools, doctors' surgeries and open green spaces.
Finally we owe it to future generations to see that we take global warming seriously. We must set much more ambitious targets for recycling and ensure that every resident plays their part in achieving these targets.

Keith Gell 160 votes
Labour Party.
Born and living in Eastbourne, Keith went to school at Bourne, Ratton and ECAT, eventually gaining a Masters in Artificial Intelligence.
He runs a computer consultancy specialising in software modeling.
He believes:
Seafront Kiosks should be leased to individuals on a short-term basis so ordinary people can have a livelihood.
If the council chooses to implement retrospective fire upgrades, and is legally obliged to entertain grant applications, then it should always make sufficient funds available.
Keith is a member of the Campaign for Freedom of Information, and will fight for open government, and transparent decision making.

Simon Payne 229 votes
Green Party.
Originally hailing from Streatham in south London, I have lived in Eastbourne since 2001 lured in part by the fantastic stretch of coastline we have ready access to. I have been working at Smith & Ouzman, a well-established family run business, in Hampden Park since 2004 and have just been appointed to the company's brand new environmental team.
I am a keen supporter of the action taken by organisations such as Greenpeace, Amnesty International and Reporters Without Borders. It is my sincere belief that the future of our town should be built upon inclusive policies and an earnest drive towards sustainability along with a strong sense of personal ethics from all involved.
The environment is not simply defined as rocks and trees but also encompasses the streets we walk or drive along and the buildings we live in. We all have a responsibility to ensure future generations can enjoy our surroundings as much as we do.

Zoe Vonderdell 224 votes
Green Party
I was born and have grown up in Eastbourne, attending Ocklynge and Ratton Schools before moving onto Park College. Having trained to teach science for Primary Schools, I believe access to good education is vital for everyone throughout their lives and am a strong supporter of the Green Party's commitment to life-long learning.
As a Devonshire Ward resident, I have been dismayed at many of the planning decisions that have been allowed along our seafront and in the town centre, such as the proposed demolition of the Art Deco Cavendish Road coach station booking hall and recent permission for the over-development of the Wartling Road lorry park site. I also want to see a cycle lane restored to our seafront and greatly improved facilities for cyclists and pedestrians across the town centre.
Having worked as a retail manager in the town centre for several years, I want to see a quality regeneration scheme for the area where local businesses can thrive - not just a bigger, blander shopping centre. The failed Seaside Road regeneration scheme must not be allowed to happen on an even bigger scale.
