St Anthony's

David Tutt ELECTED 2344 votes Liberal Democrat.
Born in East Sussex, David, a senior IT Manager for Royal Mail, has been an Eastbourne resident since the age of 3 and lives in St Anthonys with his wife and daughter.
David was first elected to the Borough Council at the age of 23 and has extensive knowledge of how both the Borough and County Councils work. He was Leader of the Council for 3 years between 1993-6, during which time local taxation actually fell.
At the end this period David chose not to seek re-election feeling the need to recharge. Having done so, he returned to the Council in 2002 and is currently Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group.
Among the issues that David considers important in his ward are: the need to retain the floodplain at the centre of St Anthonys; improved road safety and the fight to stop a new waste site from opening opposite Stafford School.

Jon Harris ELECTED 2242 votes Liberal Democrat.
Jon Harris has represented St Anthony's since he was first elected in 2000 and lives in the ward with his wife and two children.
Jon has a broad range of political experience having served as the Cabinet member for Transport and Environment, in the shadow Cabinet and on the planning, licensing and standards committees. He has also worked for many years in the Telecoms and I.T. industry, and currently volunteers at Sussex Downs College in the Adult education department.
He believes that the town desperately needs more well paid jobs, affordable housing for local people, an overhauled and integrated public transport service and improved recycling schemes. Jon is committed to reviewing the Borough Plan to encourage developers to deliver the new homes local people actually want, where they want them, and to minimise their impact on the local environment. Respect and responsibility are vitally important to Jon, and he is convinced that if local politicians worked together for the good of the town, all these things would be achievable. In his spare time Jon enjoys motorcycling, photography and walking on the Downs.

Tom Stoddart 735 votes Conservative Party.
Born and bred in Eastbourne Tom and his girlfriend, Carry have returned from five years in the London Commuter Belt - they missed the Sea and the Downs, so a return home was long overdue.
Tom (28) is a commercial airline pilot, flying 747s around the globe, having spent a number of years serving with the RAF. A trained union representative, he represented Gatwick based pilots for BALPA before being elected to Reigate and Banstead Council.
Tom's decision to stand for the council stems from a desire to reinvest in the community that he grew up in and a belief that a young, fresh approach to council business will help to ensure taxpayers receive the very best value and service from the council.

Hugh Norris 199 votes Green Party
Born in Watford in 1952, I grew up and was educated in Kent firstly in Erith, before moving onto Ramsgate and Broadstairs. I went to college for 2 years to study for the merchant navy before joining the Army in logistics in 1970 and completing 22 years Colour Service. I left the Army in 1992 and worked freelance until joining Eastbourne Hospital where I currently work. I have been a Green Party member for about 5 years.
One of my main concerns is Eastbourne's poor long-term performance on waste recycling. I would like to see full separated collections of recyclable material from street waste bins through the town centre and seafront. I am totally opposed to the use of incineration as part of a waste strategy and would like to see Eastbourne at the forefront of pushing for East Sussex to become an 'incinerator free' county.

Rob Sier 156 votes Green Party.
I am married with a young daughter and have lived in Eastbourne for the last eight years. I am actively involved in local environmental groups such as Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth. I am also a keen runner.
I have stood in St Anthony's Ward for both local Borough and County Council elections for the Green Party. I work in the water industry and have a degree in Water and Environmental Management.
I want to see the character and environment of Eastbourne Park preserved and oppose the building of new roads across it. The park is a vital natural resource for our town and will be crucial in managing the future risk of flooding to our town. Greens want to see the park owned and managed by a Trust representing the views of local residents and charged with preserving it for future generations.
